Before a ceremony or retreat

Screening Process

A confidential, thoughtful process for prospective participants in our ayahuasca ceremonies and retreats in Maui, Hawaii.

Your Safety and Well-Being Come First

Eligibility considerations

Who May Not Be Eligible

For everyone's safety, we may be unable to accept participants with certain medical or psychological conditions. Every application is reviewed individually, and additional conditions may affect eligibility.

  • A history of psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia
  • Bipolar I disorder or a history of manic episodes
  • Active suicidal thoughts or recent suicide attempts
  • Significant uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, including uncontrolled high blood pressure or serious heart rhythm disorders
  • Certain neurological conditions, depending on severity and medical guidance
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Current use of medications that may interact dangerously with ayahuasca, including some antidepressants, stimulants, or other medications
  • Current substance dependence or withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs
  • An inability to participate safely in a group setting

Medication decisions should always be made with the prescribing clinician. Do not stop, start, or change prescribed medication without their guidance.

Our approach

Careful, Respectful, and Individual

Our goal is not to exclude people unnecessarily, but to create the safest possible environment for everyone involved. If we believe participation may present an elevated risk, we may recommend postponing attendance or seeking guidance from a qualified healthcare professional before applying again.

Participation in an ayahuasca ceremony is always voluntary. Acceptance is based on our assessment of whether the retreat or ceremony is an appropriate fit at that time.
